Why Gay Marriage is Unreasonable

Anti christian protestersThe legalization of same-sex marriage in New York is momentous. Since the news hit, we’ve seen non-Christians jubilant while thumbing their nose at Christians, some Christians horrified, and other Christians jubilant and trying to apologize for the lack of tolerance and niceness of their fellow Christians.

All Grown-ups are Kids

Some people resist Christianity because they don’t like being told what to do. This is completely natural and understandable. It is true that Christianity lists wrongs and rights, presenting some behaviors as better than others, so naturally, those who practice the wrong behaviors will resent Christianity. This is so natural and instinctual that we can call it part of being human. We see it all the time in children. Continue reading

God and Aliens

AliensI’ve often been exacerbated by people’s stubborn assertion that alien life must be out there. With no evidence of aliens, any belief in aliens therefore cannot be scientific and must be faith. My movie The Invisible Pink Unicorn and my spin-off guild are explorations of this. Because of the lack of evidence, I’m bewildered by prominent scientists, like Stephen Hawking, who have come out, not only in favor of the likelihood of alien existence, but who have made outright assertions that they must exist. Their arguments based on ratios of probability (which is bad reasoning) are all the more painful.

We’re All Slaves

Finding Freedom by Geoff McClelland Christians are sometimes characterized as people who believe in an afterlife because they cant cope with the thought of there being no point to life and nothing to look forward to after death besides rotting in the ground. They are also sometimes characterized as deeply troubled people, who only do good on this earth because they fear that if they don’t they won’t see heaven. This characterization is often intended to make the Christian appear to be cowardly and fearful, reacting out of that fear in his
belief in Christ and an afterlife. One will often hear, if my experiences are any indication, an atheist tout with great pride his fearlessness, how the thought of death dœsn’t phase him, and how he dœs good things of his own will without counting on rewards in the afterlife — a much superior motive for doing good.

Deathbed Conversions

DeathbedI once knew a man (let’s call him “Phil”, may he rest in peace) who disbelieved God’s unconditional forgiveness on the grounds that deathbed conversions aren’t “fair”. A man, gœs the reasoning, who has spent his life in unrepentant sin shouldn’t be able to pray for salvation, moments before he dies, and get the same eternal reward as a man who has lived his life according to God’s will. This thinking is tragic and ultimately unnecessary, for the fear is, I think, unfounded.

FTL">Militant Atheism FTL

010507atheistThe LA Times just published an article asking militant atheists to not be so confrontational with Christians. The crux of their argument is that scientific atheists like Richard Dawkins, who mock, ridicule and stigmatize Christians, are doing evolution a disservice, because the polarization slows down the public’s acceptance of evolution. While this is true, I think the greater point is that militant atheists are doing humanity a disservice by being uncivil — evolution be hanged.

Another Christian Scandal

The pope recently “rehabilitated” a bishop who believes that there was no holocaust. This means that at one time the bishop was excommunicated — cut off from the church and denied eternal salvation — but that the pope has lifted his excommunication (for an explanation of my claim that excommunication denies a man eternal salvation, please read my responses to this post). The reason this is becoming an issue for the pope is because of the bishop’s reluctance to accept that the holocaust is a real, historical event.
