God and Aliens

AliensI’ve often been exacerbated by people’s stubborn assertion that alien life must be out there. With no evidence of aliens, any belief in aliens therefore cannot be scientific and must be faith. My movie The Invisible Pink Unicorn and my spin-off guild are explorations of this. Because of the lack of evidence, I’m bewildered by prominent scientists, like Stephen Hawking, who have come out, not only in favor of the likelihood of alien existence, but who have made outright assertions that they must exist. Their arguments based on ratios of probability (which is bad reasoning) are all the more painful.

Reviews

I have a lot of opinions but not a lot of patience to write them all out. So, instead of making a new post for every review (like I have been doing), I’ll instead collect them all on this page and only add short little explanations if I feel like it. Here, then, are my thoughts on cigars, pipe tobacco, movies, books and booze. Continue reading

The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis

I’m a big fan of Lewis, but after reading The Abolition of Man, I think I have finally figured out his problem. Lewis always casts too wide a net. He is so knowledgeable, and has debated the issues with so many people of vastly differing opinions, that he tries to counter every argument, predict every objection, and wrap it all up by the end of each chapter. He enters the parking lot and circles every light post before exiting. When compared with the notes he must have had while writing, it probably made perfect sense, but for those of us who are deprived of his notes, never had the conversations he had nor heard the counter arguments he had, we get a bit lost.

Awaiting the Prodigal Son

Awaiting the arrivalI wrote about the prodigal son previously, and it is funny that I just finished reading a bit of Lewis that made a great point on the matter.

Problems with District 9--Movie Review

poster_district9-03I’ll get the obvious remarks out of the way first — District 9 was brilliantly made, had wonderful special effects, had believable aliens with distinct personalities, had entertaining action and bla, bla, bla. In short, technically speaking, District 9 was made the way movies are supposed to be made.

Man on Wire -- Glorifying Narcissism

I just finished watching “Man on Wire”. It is a BBC documentary about a French man named Phillipe who tight-rope walked between the World Trade Center twin towers in 1974. In that the documentary is entertaining, thought provoking, visually stimulating and well-produced, I recommend it, so if you plan on watching it I must warn you that this post contains spoilers. I want to use this documentary as an example of everything that is wrong with the mindset of our current world society.

Horton Hears a Who /Oh, How I Love Animation!

Today is Sunday and I take my Sundays off. However, I really didn’t have much to do today, and my mind kept going over things that I want to do in my new video (I’ll have screenshots on my homepage Monday morning) so I was tempted to just go to the office and get some of it done. But God gives us a Sabbath for a reason — because we’re human and we need rest — and so instead of working on my video, I had a fine lunch and went to a movie.
